The Bogeys

Great Turn Out To

"The Bogeys go Birko II"

Can I just say what a great turn out we had to our 2nd round "The Bogeys go Birko II" on Sunday the 27th of May 2012.

A big thanks to the fresh meat (Gavin, JT, David and Ryan) that came along to join the team. Not to mention all the boys who backed up after the last game, well done!

So it was a pretty brisk morning and it was pleasing to see everyone was on time to the T off. Luie was the man to take the honours off the first, and set a cracking start splitting the....... um T block! with a great drive.
Early morning pit stop.. A familiar sight for some of you I'm sure

Closest The Pin

So the 2nd round saw 2 six packs up for grabs for closest the pin (closest pin can only be won by a first T shot that ends up on the green, not the first cut like a few of you painfully got). The 2nd hole of the day was the first chance to snag a sixer, the first group went through without hitting the green. The second group had their chances but also failed to make a claim to the pack.  Gavin hit a great shot pin high, and only a few meters to the right of the pin, but not on the green. Unlucky Gav because I would say it was closest to the pin of the day, but that's golf I guess. Third group failed to post a score either.

Gavin's shot (it is closer than it looks, ha)

Jackpot!!!!!!

With no winner on the 1st closest pin we could only jackpot it to the next par 3. Guess what? The Bogeys lived up to their name and reputation buy not hitting the green....again. 20 shots and not one on the green Ha.

Double Jackpot!!!!!!

So the scene is set, all the Bogeys are together at the 10th hole, another par 3 and another chance to win 6 glorious beers. Third or forth to T off lands a scoring shot, a hush fell over the galleries, can he be beaten? There were some very close calls with a couple of balls just off the edge, but in the end a lone ball on the green claimed the first six pack. I say glorious beers because I'm enjoying one of those very beers right now, yes Rob (me) took out the first closest the pin.
500mL bundles of goodness

Final Chance

Only one Par 3 left and the odds are stacking up to have another winner. The 16th hole sees us teeing up and wishing the beers were cold and ready to go. Well long story short no one hit that green either! So that last six pack jackpots to the next game. Three closest the pins for the next round boys, so get those 9 irons out and start practicing, I think we need it.

The Round

So how did the round go? Up and down I would say. The scoring looked to be quite consistent, I think most guys had a slight improvement on their last round scores. A big congratulations to Patty for hitting the only birdie of the day. That takes the Bogeys up to a grand total of 2 birdies from 2 games.

The speed of our round was a little slower this time, which is no biggy. I've just listed a couple of tips that will see us at the 19th hole earlier.

  • Be ready for your shot.       Worry about your own shot first and have your club out of the bag ready to go.
  • Watch your playing groups shot off the T.       The T shot is normally the longest and hardest to find so the more eyes watching where it went will help find that little white f#%@er quicker.
  • Be ready for YOUR putt.       Don't be afraid to line up and practice swing while another player is putting.
  • Remember MAX.       The max of 5 over for any one hole is about no blowouts and moving on. If you have MAXED out and have a group waiting behind, please pickup and move on to the next hole. It doesn't affect your score at all.
Some holes will take longer but we should try to aim for no longer than 5 hrs a round. Which is normally easy done. I think on Sunday we took around 6 hours which is about 20 minutes a hole. If we cut it down to around 15 minutes a hole that would see us well under the 5 hours.
Bogeys Ready to Rock???

The Scoreboard

I've put 2 scoreboards up this week, the Bogeys Board and the Leaders Board. I put some projected handicaps in (from the players with 2 games) to see how they would work. As you can see by the results they should be on the money with only a few shots separating the pack.

So who wins? No one this time but after the next game we will have official Bogey handicaps. So how will we decide the winner when there is a tie? One way is to count back to the hardest hole of the course (index 1) which was the 7th (par 5). So Patty scored a 6 and Rob a 5 and with their handicaps they would both have 2 shots on this hole. So... Rob would have won that round.

I'm open to suggestions if any one has a different way of deciding a winner in the event of a tie. It would be nice to have it sorted by our first real game so leave your comments. Other ways are Stableford points, flipping a coin, or winner (out of those 2) at the next round.

Anyways enough for now stay Bogey!

The Bogeys

Blog Spot
Welcome to the 'Bogeys' blog.

The Bogeys are a small and hopefully growing golf club who will travel around from course to course having a hit and a couple of beers to boot.

So we are our own club and have our own rules. We're not going to reinvent the wheel here, (I think golf is a pretty sweet game as it is) we're just going to tweak the scoring a bit.

So the main rule change is MAX. This is the MAX score you can score on any one hole, which is 5 over the par of any one hole. e.g. A par 3 MAX would be an 8 and a par 4 would be a 9 etc. Once this score is reached you can either pick and move on (this is preferred when players are waiting behind you) or play on until you finish the hole. Last thing about MAX is to mark it as a 'M' on the score card regardless if you finished the hole on MAX or over.

I have started a results table which shows everyone's score, handicaps, closest pin winners, etc. It also has how many birdies, pars, bogeys etc scored, and of course how many MAX's. I've called quadruple bogeys (4over) Redline, meaning you're redlining and about to MAX out.

I will talk about Handicaps in my next post. I have spoken to a couple of you and I think we've got it sorted. (To be honest I couldn't be arsed typing it out now)

Ok enough rules for now I hope I've got it right and haven't confused anyone. We can fix it later any hows.

Fez looking nervous on the 1st Tee

Our golfing season has started with the first game at Howeston (Birkdale) with a solid turn out of 7. No real winners or losers in this game (until we are handicapped). We played par 70 course Red then the Yellow 9. Kris (Fez) had the honour of the day, and started the Bogeys off to a cracking start of some sorts Ha. Phil A won the day with 93 shots off the stick. Phil S won the 2 closest pins along with the only birdie of the day. Well done boys.

Leave a comment on the blog if you have any questions etc.
Cheers RoBoT
